A host of city dignitaries including 3rd Ward Alderman Pat Dowell and Mayor Rahm Emanuel were on hand earlier this week for the groundbreaking of a new XS Tennis Village at 5256 S. State Street.
The planned 112,000-square foot tennis facility is being developed in partnership with the Chicago Housing Authority. It’s intended to be a focal point in the Washington Park neighborhood where tennis training will only be one goal. The village will also serve as an athletic and academic enrichment center.
The Village will serve athletes, underserved youth, and the local community, from pre-K through adults, according to XS Tennis. The village will offer 12 indoor and 19 outdoor courts, a full fitness center, one indoor and two outdoor basketball courts, a track, training space and classrooms.
