Argyle Street Transformatiion *Not Quite* Started

Monday, in this very space, we let you know the final phase of the Argyle Street transformation was officially underway. This morning, anticipating loud machinery tearing holes in pavement, I set out to watch things get done.

Welp…

Turns out, I’m a little early. After trekking on foot all the way over to the construction area (Editor’s Note: You had to walk one block, Dan) I found that, in fact, it is not a construction zone quite yet. The only indications that work will soon begin are the electronic signboards indicating such.

So what happened?  According to 48th Ward Alderman Harry Osterman, the start date has been pushed to Thursday, July 9.  And even then we won’t see craters and cranes.

Instead, the alderman says we should expect people with cameras documenting the way the street looks pre-construction, along with surveyors surveying things.  There will also be soil samples taken, the results of which are expected by the end of the week.  That should tell the contractor, Speedy Gonzales, how to proceed.

But not to worry. Rather than waste my journey (Again, one block) I took the opportunity to obtain photographic evidence that the Argyle corridor mural game is still on point.
